"You can trace every sickness, every disease, and every ailment to a mineral deficiency.” -Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling PhD Experts estimate that nearly 90% of Americans suffer from a mineral deficiency. Muscle cramps, fatigue, food cravings, and osteoporsis. These are just some of the common symptoms from a mineral deficiency. what are trace minerals? The most commonly known trace minerals are iron, copper, iodine, chromium, zinc, fluoride, cobalt, selenium, and manganese. These minerals help regulate hormones, nerves, thyroid, muscles, metabolism and more. A lot of trace minerals found in soil have been washed into the ocean. In fact, the ocean finds them in proper proportions (maybe that's why I love the ocean so much). The Great Salt Lake in Utah contains a high concentration of them. The two products below source their minerals from this lake. Eating organic foods will help, but adding a supplement is even better. If you are one who needs electrolytes from sports, exercise, or working outside, these are much healthier than Gatorade! mineral essence by young livingMineral Essence is a balanced, full-spectrum ionic mineral complex enhanced with essential oils. Rosehip contains more vitamin C than citrus fruits, and I don’t know about ya’ll, but I want to boost my immune system like crazy right now! Aside from having important antioxidants, Rosehip also helps with the following: -nausea -constipation -kidney & urninary tract disorders -preventing heart disease -reduces inflammation -Studies show that it inhibits weight gain when used daily. I’ve been consuming rosehips in tea form (some ingest in powder form), and want to share with you guys what’s in this tea from Young Living! It tastes so delicious, due to the honey in it.
INGREDIENTS: Organic Assam black tea, Organic pu’erh tea, Organic licorice root, Organic natural honey and fig flavor, Organic rosehip, Natural orange flavor. I LOVE knowing that YL provides TOP notch ingredients from sustainably grown farms. Here’s what they have to say about this tea: “Our Assam tea comes from our producers at the Jalinga Tea Estate, the first 100 percent organic and carbon-neutral tea operation in the world. These facilities are dedicated to sustainable tea farming and renewable energy. Our pu’erh tea leaves are harvested from the Wuliang Mountains of Yunnan, China. The tender pu’erh tea leaves are handplucked, sun dried, and slightly aged for a distinct, earthy flavor.” Add your Thieves honey to a cup and enjoy!! You can order the tea here! Lots of people ask me what to get from Young Living besides essential oils, so I made this list of the 10 items that I'd have a hard time living without. The first 3 items bring me so much health, that I keep them fully stocked.
1- MULTIGREENS// I can. not. live. without. this!!! Seriously, I lack energy without it. The CDC says that less than one-tenth of Americans eat their vegetables. Crazy! The percentage for eating greens is lower. This multi-green is a chlorophyll formula with kelp, choline, alfalfa, spirulina, bee pollen, barley grass juice, melissa oil, and more. It helps convert B vitamins and is good for heart and brain function. Not gluten free. 2- THIEVES OIL BLEND// Once, my stepson had a very bad case of the flu. I diffused and cleaned with this, and the rest of us never got sick. In fact, since we've been using Young Living (2015), I can count on 2 hands the amount of times that my entire family has gotten sick. That's why I won't go without it. It contains cinnamon bark, lemon, rosemary, clove, and eucalyptus. 3- THIEVES HOUSEHOLD CLEANER// I've been using this cleaner for 13 years. I wanted an all natural cleaner because when my kids were little, they wanted to help clean and I didn't want them handling bleach. This cleaner is all-purpose (you can use if for everything) and is a concentrate, so a big spray bottle will cost less than $2. You can't beat that in any health food store! 4- SAVVY MINERALS FOUNDATION// I love this all-natural mineral make up. It's easy to apply and doesn't fade. Chemicals from harsh make up can seep through your pours. Your make up, lotion, and soaps matter! The entire line is incredible, and the brushes are awesome! 5- PURE PROTEIN COMPLETE// This is the only protein drink that I like. It contains 25 grams of protein, with a probiotic, and a full range of amino acids. Sources are egg whites, pea protein, goat whey, organic hemp seed, and RGBH-free whey. Comes in chocolate. 6- IMMUPRO// I originally tried Immupro to help me sleep. Yes, it works! It has Melatonin in it, which I didn't realize supports immunity. Other ingredients that support the immune system are zinc, selenium, wolfberry, orange peel oil, and a combination of mushrooms, including the popular Reishi, which is good for many other things. 7- ARIA DIFFUSER// Not only is this diffuser gorgeous, with its maple bottom, it diffuses up to 430 sq. ft., making it a great diffuser for larger living areas. It has a remote, different color setting, and has a built in speaker to plug your device to, or you can choose to let it play its own tranquil music. While it is the priciest diffuser, it is worth every penny. I've had mine for 4 years. The glass dome is replaceable and Young Living always gives 2 free oils with their diffusers and warranties them for 1 year. 8- PEACE & CALMING OIL BLEND// This is my favorite smelling blend. I wear it instead of perfume and I use it at night to help sleep. It's good to rotate your sleep oils because you desensitize to them. It contains Ylang Ylang, patchouli, tangerine, orange, and Blue Tansy. 9- CHARCOAL BAR SOAP// This is a facial soap great for oily or acne-prone skin, but I use it also as a body soap. I love the smell! It has orange and patchouli in it. The charcoal pulls out oil and impurities. Great for teens! It is made without parabens and other synthetics that are harmful to the body. 10- RUTAVALA ROLLER// This roller is always on my nightstand. It's designed to support sleep and contains lavender, valerian, and Ruta from YL's farm in Ecuador. It is not the most pleasant of smells, but it definitely works! There you have it! My favorite and most recommended products. YL is always adding new things, so be sure to check their site. If you want to purchase any of these and aren't a member, just click here, add things to your cart, and check out. But if you want 24% off wholesale prices, you must purchase a Premium starter kit (oils, CBD, Savvy Minerals make up, Ningxia Red, or Thieves kit). I highly recommend purchasing a kit and joining Essential Rewards and adding a few of the things listed above that aren't in the kits. FAQs: Q- Do I have to purchase monthly? A- No. It takes one $50pv purchase per year to keep your YL account active, but you don't have to order again. We do have a monthly program called Essential Rewards which gives you free product and credit on every order, but you can easily skip joining that. Q- Do the oils really work? A- Yes. There is so much scientific research supporting essential oils. I've used YL oils for 5 years and other oils for over 25 years and have many stories to share! Q- How will I know how to use them? A- We have a supportive Facebook group that we can add you to, where you can ask questions or find recipes. Other resources: Pinterest, Essential Oils Reference Guide book and app, plus many other blogs, FB group, & more are out there for you to access. With COVID19 spreading, now more than ever is the time to boost your immune system. We've been taking a spoonful of this syrup for years! Especially when we feel like we're starting to get sick.
Aside from this recipe, we also take elderberry syrup (see below for that easy recipe), vitamin C and D. Sunshine is a cure all for viruses as the sun breaks down the lipid around the virus cell. If you don't have any Thieves, I highly recommend getting the oil blend! If you're not wanting a starter kit of essential oils, you can order just a bottle of Thieves oil at retail price. Please email me if you any questions! I am a firm believer of having Thieves oil on hand at all times. See the button on the right side of this page to order, under Natural Products. INTRODUCING THE EASIEST AND CREAMIEST LIP BALM RECIPE! I was initially intimidated to make anything in the line of salves or balms, but after making just once, I discovered it’s so fun and easy. I am addicted to DIY now! Saves money and is great to do with older kids! Here’s what you need... SUPPLIES: 12 Chapstick tubes (if not tubes, we used balm containers also. This recipe will hold close to 10 of these containers.) Shea butter Beeswax (I love working with the pellets.) coconut oil (I get this brand at Costco. It’s a low price for the amount.) Peppermint essential oil (Or any other EO) Orange essential oil pyrex measuring cup large pot of water filled quarter of the way Something to stir essential oils with such as wooden skewer tablespoon eggshell carton (if using tubes)- Turn carton upside down and poke holes in each section. Stick open chapstick tubes in each to hold them up. Directions: I am very simple and efficient, so I’ve streamlined this craft to be as easy as possible. Rather than using a double boiler, I just put the measuring cup in the pot of boiling water. 1. Measure 2 tblsp. of coconut oil, 2 tblsp. shea butter and 2 tblsp. beeswax and place in pyrex measuring cup. 2. Place measuring cup in pot of water. I usually fill water to half of height of measuring cup (the handle is not under water). Turn on medium high heat. 3. Once everything is melted, carefully take it out. If too hot, use rag or glove. Let sit a minute, and then add 20 drops of peppermint oil and 10 drops of orange oil. (Any type of essential oil will do.) 4. Stir with wooden skewer to incorporate essential oils. Then carefully pour in chapstick containers or tubes. Before I used the upside down egg carton, my tubes would fall over and spill everywhere. They cool very quickly. 5. Label tubes. Like I said, what seemed like an intimidating project was the easiest. These make great gifts! Add some room spray in a cute bag! Subscribe here for more recipes. I LOVE GOOD FACIAL PRODUCTS AND AM NOT OPPOSED TO SPENDING A GOOD AMOUNT OF MONEY ON CLEANSERS AND MOISTURIZERS. DIY TONER, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS EASY TO MAKE AND WORKS WELL ON MY SKIN. Who remembers Sea Breeze? If you’re in your 40’s you’re smiling right now. Toners have come a long way since then. Some carry alcohol to help prevent acne. Others contain salicylic acid that unclogs pores. And others contain brightening agents. Why use a toner? The main reason for using one is to balance the ph of the skin. Our skin is somewhat acidic and cleansing disturbs that number. Toners will help restore that balance quickly. I’ve used this DIY toner for a year now. It’s a very moisturizing one and has left my skin feeling and looking great. This is a toner for a normal to oily skin type. Some twists on this recipe might be to add a drop or two of vitamin E, a couple drops of Bergamot essential oil, or Chamomile oil. Our readers’ comments below have some great ideas, too. I’d LOVE to hear back from you on any tweaks you make to it! And be sure to check out my recipe for DIY Facial serum! It smells AMAZING & my skin looks so much better! DIY FACIAL TONER Ingredients:

AFTER RECENTLY DISCOVERING HOW EASY IT IS TO MAKE ELDERBERRY SYRUP FOR THE COLD AND FLU SEASON, I HAVE TO SHARE THIS SIMPLE RECIPE! Elderberry syrup is the latest trend to combat colds and flu, as well as shorten the duration of illness. It is much cheaper to make your own than to buy at the store. That being said, if you’re in a crunch and need it right away, I recommend this brand. BENEFITS OF ELDERBERRY The elderberry contains high immune boosting compounds, including vitamins A, B, and C. German scientists conducting studies on Elderberry showed that: “Elderberry anthocyanins enhance immune function by boosting the production of cytokines. These unique proteins act as messengers in the immune system to help regulate immune response, thus helping to defend the body against disease.” Besides cold and flu, elderberries have also been known to help with yeast infections, nasal and chest congestion, and hay fever. WHEN AND WHERE TO PURCHASE ELDERBERRY I live in Zone 9 and elderberry grows rampant here, but most are found along ditches that are sprayed with chemicals. You can grow your own elderberry and use fresh berries. It is much easier to purchase dried berries. Grab a bag of dried berries in the summer while prices are low. The berries keep for at least a year, and you can make the syrup later in the winter months once cold and flu season has hit. If you wait until winter to buy dry berries, you’ll be paying a higher price because of supply and demand! The below recipe makes a big batch, which is great if you’re wanting to give to friends and family. If not, a good idea is to cut the bag in half or in thirds and make in batches as you run out of fresh syrup. The shelf life in the refrigerator is 4 months once made. The dried berries last up to a year. If you want to make a small amount for yourself, the kit pictured above is great! It contains the dried berries, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and many other immune boosting ingredients, such as echinacea and rose hips. Just add water and honey. It will make 18-20 ounces of syrup. HEALTH BENEFITS OF REMAINING INGREDIENTS Cinnamon has a plethora of benefits. It helps stabilize blood sugar levels, relieves nausea, stimulates circulation, and is great for arthritic conditions. This recipe calls for cinnamon sticks. Clove contains an unusual combination of compounds found in no other plant. It has analgesic and antimicrobial properties, can aid in digestion, and can act as an expectorant. This recipe uses whole cloves. Ginger is an anti-inflammatory herb. This recipe uses chunks of fresh organic ginger. It is a warming remedy and is anti-viral, making for a perfect remedy for cold and flu symptoms. It is great for nausea, arthritis, and lymph-cleansing. Raw honey is quite acidic, which counteracts the growth of most bacterial species. It is rich in antioxidants and is anti-viral. Besides the clove, honey is an important healing element to this recipe. Avoid if under the age of one. Try to find local honey. We have a honey shack down the road that uses an honor system to pay. We pour our own honey from big steel containers. Lots of fun! SHOULD I ADD ESSENTIAL OILS TO MY SYRUP? I highly recommend using fresh or dried ingredients for this recipe. The flavor will be less intense and go down smoother. That being said, I always add Thieves Vitality oil to my elderberry syrup. It contains clove, lemon, rosemary, eucalyptus, and cinnamon bark essential oils. I attribute our strong immune systems to this blend, over elderberry syrup. I sometimes just use Thieves, honey, and apple cider vinegar instead of this syrup. Here’s a little bit more medicinal information about the Thieves blend. There’s nothing wrong with adding essential oils, if that’s what you prefer. Just be careful which brand you ingest. Young Living’s Vitality line is safe to consume. Lastly, essential oils are very concentrated, so a little is all that is needed. HOW MUCH TO TAKE? To boost my immune system, I take a teaspoon of elderberry syrup a day. My kids take the same amount. If sick, double or triple this amount. You really cannot over use it. Do not give to babies under the age of one. When in doubt, ask a doctor or research. Here is the recipe. Let me know if you try it and how you like it! I always like to hear how people change these recipes, too. ELDERBERRY SYRUP RECIPE This recipe makes 104 oz. INGREDIENTS: -1 pound organic dried elderberries (try this kit if you want to make a smaller batch) -16 cups of water -8 cinnamon sticks -4 inches organic fresh ginger chopped into 1″ pieces -15 whole cloves -1 quart raw, local honey (or this brand if you cannot get local honey) -5 ml Thieves Vitality essential oil (optional) OR 10 drops to 8 ounces of syrup INSTRUCTIONS: 1. In a large pot, add water, berries, cinnamon sticks, ginger, and cloves. 2. Simmer 30-45 minutes. 3. Strain all ingredients using a colander and cheese cloth. 4. Let cool 10-15 minutes and add honey. Stir well. 5. Add Thieves Vitality essential oil (optional). Stir well. 6. Store and label in jars or bottles. I use these 8 ounce bottles. Again, the shelf life in the refrigerator is 4 months. Because of the antimicrobial benefits, I tend to let mine last longer. Enjoy! Hopefully you will only have to use this to prevent illness! Disclosure: I am not a doctor or medical professional. Comfrey means “knitting together” in Latin. It is good to use on breaks, bruises, sprains, cuts, and more. My mom fractured her Humerus bone and had very bad bruising from a fall. She used this salve daily and was astounded how quickly her bruising disappeared! (Pst…my mom is not a believer in all natural methods, so for her to be impressed says a lot for Comfrey!) I harvested this plant from my garden. It’s easy to grow in my zone, which is zone 9. After cleaning the leaves, I dehydrated them in my dehydrator (herbs must be completely dry in order to keep out bacteria when infused in oil). A link for dried comfrey is included in the recipe for time’s sake. To make this recipe, infuse the comfrey in a carrier oil in a mason jar. Infusing is not like distilling. It is easy to do but not as potent as essential oils. I chose Jojoba oil to infuse the comfrey as it has a long shelf life. Olive oil makes a wonderful, creamy salve; but I don’t like that it goes rancid so quickly. Make sure to have a 2:1 ratio of oil to comfrey when infusing. Place on a window sill for 2 weeks gently shaking every few days. The heat of the sun will release the medicinal properties from the plant into the oil. Once the infusion is done, strain the oil through a cheesecloth or fine mesh sieve. You then have your Comfrey oil! You are now ready to make your medicinal salve! To create the salve, use a mason jar or pyrex measuring cup to melt your beeswax and comfrey oil. Place it in a pot of water over medium-high heat. Melt until the beeswax is completely melted. Remove from heat and add Lavender and Ylang Ylang essential oils. I chose these two as they are both great for skin, healing, and they smell wonderful. I also add Helichrysum at times. This is the most healing oil on the planet! It’s costly, but I highly recommend adding it to your oil collection. (I received mine free by using my Rewards Points through Young Living’s Essential Rewards program.) Stir in the essential oils in and then pour into containers. I used half ounce tins and a four ounce jar. This recipe makes one cup. INGREDIENTS:
